Inmate Text App
If you have a family member who is in prison, the best method to keep in touch with them is through an inmate texting application. These apps are designed to comply with prison rules and permit family and friends to send messages, pictures and video calls, eCards and money to their prison trust account. In addition to these messaging apps, there are a number of federal inmate apps which provide additional services, such as video visits and phone calls.
JPay for instance, allows friends and family members to send money directly into an inmate’s trust account. It also allows emails, photos, videograms and eCards. It also lets them create personalized postcards featuring personal photos. It's a safe and more secure alternative to traditional postal mail.
Another popular app for texting inmates is GettingOut. It provides "simple reliable, secure communication" between inmates and their loved ones. The app is available at select correctional facilities, and allows inmates to upload photos and communicate with family members and friends on their tablets. Inmates pay $0.25 per message and their loved ones pay costs for accessing the data (but there are no explicit images). The GettingOut application can be used for uploading photos to Facebook or Foursquare and then check in to Foursquare and add an YouTube video.
